Paul’s Weekly Letter – 6 March 2019

The big news this week is that the Democratic Senate Majority Leader Kelvin Atkinson resigned after pleading guilty to federal charges of misappropriation of hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign funds for personal use.  Wow! First, this investigation and plea deal must have been going on for a long time.  I really do not think the FBI showed up on Monday to work out a deal.  How long did the Democrat leadership, including the Governor know?  And finally, will we hear all the details of the investigation and are there others involved?  I sure would like to know as we go into 2020 elections
Today at 4:00 pm  there will be a hearing on SB 143which would allow same day registration and voting.  Please come down to testify against or show your support for those that do.
To be honest, as we go through this session I sure hope all the Republicans that stayed home on election day are feeling just a little bit of remorse and will promise themselves to come out in 2020.  It is beyond frustrating watching our state turn blue when it did not have to.

Last Thursday’s Membership meeting was really interesting. Greg Bailor (yes he still makes me feel better about Nevada politics) stated that we must win three additional State Senate seats in 2020.  This will give us a voice in redistricting that will happen in 2021.  He stated pretty short and simple goals, but we must make every effort as this will affect the state for the next 20 or 30 years.
